1 Mark CBSE 2023
What does CPCT stand for and when is it used?
Ans: CPCT stands for Corresponding Parts of Congruent Triangles. It is used after proving two triangles congruent to conclude that corresponding sides and angles of those triangles are equal.
3 Marks CBSE 2022
In △ABC and △DEF, AB = DE, ∠B = ∠E, BC = EF. Prove △ABC ≅ △DEF and find if ∠A = ∠D.
Ans: In △ABC and △DEF: AB = DE (given), ∠B = ∠E (given), BC = EF (given). By SAS congruence rule, △ABC ≅ △DEF. Therefore ∠A = ∠D by CPCT.
5 Marks CBSE 2021
Prove that the angles opposite to equal sides of an isosceles triangle are equal.
Ans: Given: △ABC with AB = AC. To prove: ∠B = ∠C. Construction: Draw bisector AD of ∠A meeting BC at D. Proof: In △ABD and △ACD: AB = AC (given), AD = AD (common), ∠BAD = ∠CAD (AD bisects ∠A). By SAS: △ABD ≅ △ACD. Therefore ∠ABD = ∠ACD, i.e., ∠B = ∠C (CPCT).
