A coin is tossed once. What is the probability of getting heads?
Ans: Sample space S = {H, T}. Favourable outcomes = {H} = 1. P(H) = 1/2.
2 Marks
A die is rolled once. Find P(getting an even number) and P(getting a number > 4).
Ans: P(even) = {2,4,6}/6 = 3/6 = 1/2. P(>4) = {5,6}/6 = 2/6 = 1/3.

In a bag there are 4 red, 3 blue and 2 green balls. A ball is drawn at random. Find P(red), P(blue), P(not green) and verify they are valid probabilities.
Ans: Total = 9. P(red) = 4/9 ≈ 0.44. P(blue) = 3/9 = 1/3 ≈ 0.33. P(green) = 2/9. P(not green) = 1 − 2/9 = 7/9 ≈ 0.78. All values lie between 0 and 1 ✓. P(red)+P(blue)+P(green) = 4/9+3/9+2/9 = 9/9 = 1 ✓.

A survey of 200 students found: 80 prefer cricket, 60 prefer football, 40 prefer basketball, 20 prefer tennis. Find the empirical probability of each sport. If a student is chosen at random, what is the probability they prefer either cricket or football?
Ans: P(cricket) = 80/200 = 2/5 = 0.4. P(football) = 60/200 = 3/10 = 0.3. P(basketball) = 40/200 = 1/5 = 0.2. P(tennis) = 20/200 = 1/10 = 0.1. Sum = 1 ✓. P(cricket or football) = (80+60)/200 = 140/200 = 7/10 = 0.7. Empirical probability is based on actual observations; as sample size increases, it approaches true probability.
