Areas Related to Circles

Perimeter and Area of Circle

Circumference = 2πr; Area = πr². A sector is a "pie-slice" of a circle. Area of sector = (θ/360°) × πr². Length of arc = (θ/360°) × 2πr. A segment is the region between a chord and its arc.

Area of Sector and Segment

Area of minor segment = Area of sector − Area of triangle. Area of major segment = πr² − Area of minor segment. These formulas are used to solve problems involving combinations of plane figures.

Areas of Combinations of Figures

Complex areas are found by adding or subtracting simple shapes (circles, triangles, rectangles). E.g., area of a ring = π(R² − r²). Always use π = 22/7 or 3.14 as specified.

Perimeter and Area of Sectors and Segments

Sector: a region bounded by two radii and an arc. Arc length = (θ/360°) × 2πr. Area of sector = (θ/360°) × πr². Perimeter of sector = 2r + arc length. Segment: the region between a chord and the corresponding arc. Area of minor segment = Area of sector − Area of triangle. For θ = 60°, triangle formed is equilateral (area = √3/4 × r²). For θ = 90°, triangle is right-angled isosceles (area = ½r²). Major segment area = πr² − minor segment area. Always express answer in terms of π or use π = 22/7 as specified.
